Arman whose real name is Armand Fernandez (1928-2005) is a French-American artist, painter and plastic sculptor renowned for his work on accumulation.
He studied at the School of Decorative Arts in Nice and then at the École du Louvre.
In 1950, Arman became, with Yves Klein, Martial Raysse and Jean Tinguely, one of the founding members of the Nouveaux Réalistes, proclaimed by the art critic Pierre Rostany “new perceptive approaches to reality”.
They will be joined by César, Niki de Saint Phalle and Gérard Deschamps.
Throughout his career, Arman has sought to challenge artistic conventions and explore the connections between art and everyday reality.
He also used found objects, such as bottles of wine and tubes of paint, to create unique artistic compositions, and is recognized as one of the pioneers of contemporary art and recovery.
His contribution to the New Realism movement left an indelible mark on the artistic landscape and continues to influence many artists today.
Arman's works are exhibited in the largest museums, as well as in public spaces in a hundred cities in the world.
“I affirm that the expression of detritus, objects, has its value in itself, directly, without the desire for aesthetic arrangement that obliterates them and makes them similar to the colors of a palette; in addition, I am introducing the sense of global gesture without remission or remorse.”
